Announcing “The Borge Ring Award”

The Danish Animation Society (ANIS), who’s hosting the Danish Animation Award every year in conjunction with Odense International Film Festival (OFF), have just announced that they will name the main award “The Borge Ring Award”. With the award comes a cash prize of EUR 2,000 plus a bronze statuette designed by the Italian resident British sculptor Joanna Mallin-Davies. The statuette will be inspired from characters from Borge Ring’s Oscar winning short animation “Anna & Belle”, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 1985.

“Borge is well-respected in the entire global animation community for his outstanding animations”, says Soren Fleng, Chairman of the The Danish Animation Society, and continues, “we think this is the right time for the Danish animation scene to show Borge our respect. He have inspired so many film makers, and now it’s our time to give him something back”.

Borge Ring, who was recently awarded the Winsor McCay Lifetime Achievement Award by ASIFA at the 2012 Annie Awards in February, was, according to his daughter Anne, “dancing on the table of joy” after receiving the news.

The Borge Ring Award will be the main prize at The Danish Animation Awards and will be handed out for the first time on August 24th 2012 at the Odense Intl’ Film Festival Award Galla.

The Odense International Film Festival is the most prestigious film festival in Denmark, started in 1975 and now in it’s 27th edition. The festival takes place in the birth-town of the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen and is started to celebrate storytelling in the short film format.

Resultat af FAF og ANIS’ LØN-undersøgelse

FAF (Film- og tv-arbejderforeningen) og ANIS (Animationssammenslutningen) står bag Danmarks første undersøgelse af forholdene i animationsbranchen. FAF vil på baggrund af undersøgelsen arbejde for at forbedre arbejdsvilkårene i branchen.

Animationsbranchen er en branche i vækst, som har store succeser både herhjemme og i udlandet. Det er animatorerne, der skaber den positive udvikling, men de har ikke ordnede løn- og arbejdsvilkår. Det gør dem sårbare i en attraktiv, men også barsk verden, hvor der hverken er minimumslønninger, overarbejdsbetaling eller vederlag ved overdragelse af ophavsrettigheder.

Halvdelen af de lidt mere end 400 inviterede animatorer har deltaget i undersøgelsen. Det giver et pålideligt første billede af arbejdsvilkårene i branchen.

Resultatet er distribueret ud til de der deltog i undersøgelsen.

Story masterclass på The Animation Workshop

Two weeks: From Monday the 31st of October to Friday the 11th of November.

The story masterclass is designed for writers within all media – books, tv, crossmedia, games, animation, film, comic books etc. The masterclass focuses on serial stories, in other words stories that continue in several separate installments and are based on either original or well known character universes.

The serial story has its own characteristics but is based on the firm principles and structures of Story. Therefore, the masterclass will both teach you basic and advanced techniques of writing as well as how to create a serial story – or work within a given character universe.

The course will be taught by international screen writer and experienced story teacher Barbara Slade.

Participants will arrive with an idea for a serial story in their preferred medium and during the course of the workshop they will complete a fully developed and written pitch ready to take into the marketplace.

With a combination of lecture, individual and group tasks, participants will be led through a step by step process in order to build their skills as writers and gain a firm understanding of what it takes to succeed in today’s competitive world of storytelling media.

Application deadline: October 15th
Applicants must include cv of earlier work as well as a brief presentation of their project.
